Can a medical practice use ChatGPT?
Not for any work that touches Protected Health Information. Consumer ChatGPT does not come with a Business Associate Agreement, and any PHI typed into it crosses the HIPAA boundary. Medical practices can use ChatGPT Enterprise or Microsoft Copilot inside a properly licensed Microsoft 365 tenant with a BAA in place, or healthcare-specific tools designed for clinical use. The line is the BAA and the data flow.
What AI tools are HIPAA-aligned for medical practices?
Microsoft Copilot inside Microsoft 365 with a Business Associate Agreement covers general productivity. For clinical documentation, ambient AI tools like Nuance DAX Copilot, Abridge, and Suki come with healthcare-aligned vendor agreements. For patient communication, tools like Klara and Doxy include the right paperwork. The selection follows the workflow: dictation, intake, messaging, or back office.
How does AI documentation reduce burnout?
