What is agentic AI?
Agentic AI refers to AI tools that execute multi-step workflows with oversight. A traditional chatbot answers a question. An agent reads context, takes a sequence of actions across multiple systems, makes decisions inside its defined boundaries, and surfaces exceptions for human review. The agent has a job, not just a conversation. For an SMB, the practical use is in procedural workflows that follow a repeatable pattern.
How is an agent different from automation?
Traditional automation runs scripted steps the same way each pass. The script crashes when the input is unexpected. An agent uses AI to handle some of that variability: classifying ambiguous inputs, drafting responses that fit the situation, and recognizing when to escalate to a human. The agent costs more to build than a script but handles a wider range of inputs. The tradeoff depends on the workflow.
What workflows are good agent candidates?
Good agent candidates share four traits: the workflow is procedural rather than judgment-heavy, the inputs are predictable enough for the agent to classify, the outputs can be reviewed before action, and the cost of an occasional mistake is bounded. Inbox triage, document drafting, research summarization, scheduling, and back-office processing tend to fit. Strategic decision-making, client representation, and high-stakes financial calls do not.
What happens when the agent gets something wrong?
Every CinchOps agent build includes exception handling and human review checkpoints. When the agent encounters an input it cannot classify with confidence, it surfaces the case for human review rather than guessing. The monitoring layer produces a daily summary so the owner can see what the agent did and what it flagged. The rollback path documents what to undo if a workflow goes wrong before the human catches it.
What platforms does CinchOps build on?
For Houston SMBs already on Microsoft 365, Copilot Studio is usually the right platform. The agent runs inside the tenant, the data stays in the tenant, and the licensing is predictable. For more complex workflows, CinchOps builds on Azure OpenAI directly or on Anthropic Claude through Azure. Open-source agent frameworks are an option for SMBs that need fine control over the agent's reasoning. The platform follows the workflow.
Does the agent run under an employee's login?
No. Every CinchOps agent runs on its own service account with a named human owner, access limited to the systems its workflow needs, keys rotated on a schedule, and a line on the agent inventory so it can be deprovisioned when the workflow ends or the owner leaves. An agent on a borrowed login inherits that person's full access, and an investigation cannot separate what the person did from what the agent did.
