Virtual CISO

How a vCISO Works With Your Business

Someone has to own security. Tools do not own anything.

A security program, written down: A risk register, policies and a prioritised roadmap, reviewed with leadership on a schedule.

Compliance mapped and tracked: HIPAA, PCI DSS, CMMC, SOC 2, NIST CSF or FTC Safeguards mapped to what you actually have, with gaps assigned and closed.

Questionnaires and audits answered: Cyber insurance renewals, client security questionnaires and vendor audits handled by someone who knows the answers.

Vendors and tools held to account: Your security tooling and third parties reviewed against the program, not sold to you by it.

Incident leadership: A named person who runs the response when something happens and reports to the business in plain language.

Board-level reporting: Quarterly reporting on risk, progress and spend in terms owners and boards can act on.

Find out what your security program looks like on paper today, and what a vCISO would change first.

Virtual CISO  //  Houston SMBs

You have security tools. Who is responsible for security?

Most Houston small and mid-sized businesses have firewalls, antivirus and backups, and nobody whose job is to decide whether those are the right controls, whether the risks have changed, or what the insurance questionnaire should actually say. Security is a collection of products with no owner.

A CinchOps virtual CISO is that owner: a part-time security leader who builds and runs your security program, maps it to the frameworks your clients and insurers care about, directs the engineering team, leads incident response and reports to your leadership in plain business terms.

// why a CinchOps vCISO

Advice is cheap. Our vCISO is backed by the team that does the work.

A standalone vCISO writes recommendations and hands them to whoever runs your IT. A CinchOps vCISO directs the engineers who already manage your endpoints, firewall, Microsoft 365 and SOC, so decisions become changes. We serve Houston CPA firms, law practices, healthcare offices, defense contractors and energy-services companies.

01

Leadership connected to execution

The vCISO sets priorities and the CinchOps engineering team carries them out. There is no gap between the plan and the people doing the work.

02

Fluent in your frameworks

HIPAA, PCI DSS, CMMC, SOC 2, NIST CSF and the FTC Safeguards Rule are mapped to your real controls, with evidence kept as you go rather than reconstructed at audit time.

03

Your voice to insurers and clients

Cyber insurance renewals and client security questionnaires are completed accurately by someone accountable for the answers, which is what keeps premiums down and deals moving.

04

Reports a business owner can use

Quarterly briefings cover risk, progress and spend in plain language, with recommendations and the reasons for them, so leadership can decide rather than defer.

// give security an owner

1Leadership at a fraction of a hire

Security direction from an experienced leader for a predictable monthly fee instead of an executive salary.

2Insurers and clients get real answers

Questionnaires are completed accurately by someone accountable for them, which affects premiums and deals.

3Spend that follows risk

Security budget goes to the highest risks first, with a written reason for each line.

4Compliance becomes routine

Frameworks are tracked continuously, so an audit is evidence gathering, not a scramble.

FAQs

Have Questions?

What is a virtual CISO?
A virtual CISO (chief information security officer) is an experienced security leader who works for your business part-time, owning the security program, policies, risk management, compliance and reporting that a full-time CISO would, at a fraction of the cost.
Does a small business need a vCISO?
If clients send you security questionnaires, if you handle regulated data such as health, financial or defense information, or if your cyber insurance renewal has become difficult, yes. The vCISO owns the program that answers those pressures instead of leaving it to whoever has time.
How is a vCISO different from managed IT or a managed SOC?
Managed IT runs the systems and a managed SOC watches them. The vCISO decides what the security program should be, maps it to compliance requirements, sets priorities and reports to leadership. CinchOps provides all three, which means the vCISO's decisions are carried out by the same team.
What does a vCISO engagement look like month to month?
A defined number of hours each month covering risk register reviews, policy work, compliance tracking, questionnaire and audit support, vendor reviews, incident leadership when needed, and a quarterly briefing to leadership. Scope is set to the size and risk of the business.
Can the vCISO help with cyber insurance?
Yes. Completing renewal questionnaires accurately, closing the control gaps carriers now require such as MFA and EDR, and documenting the program are core vCISO work and directly affect insurability and premium.
