What is OneDrive for Business?
OneDrive for Business is the personal cloud storage included in most Microsoft 365 subscriptions. Each user gets one terabyte or more of storage for personal work files that sync between their devices. OneDrive integrates with SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook so files can be shared, accessed from any device, and protected by the same security policies as the rest of the Microsoft 365 environment.
What happens to OneDrive content when an employee leaves the company?
By default, Microsoft retains a departing employee's OneDrive content for 30 days after their account is deleted, then it is permanently removed. CinchOps configures longer retention policies and runs a documented departing-employee transfer workflow that moves the OneDrive content to a manager or successor before Microsoft's deletion window runs out.
What is known-folder move?
Known-folder move is the OneDrive feature that automatically redirects the standard Windows folders (Desktop, Documents, Pictures) into OneDrive so the content syncs to the cloud automatically. Users do not have to remember to save files in OneDrive. The data is protected against hardware failure, theft, or ransomware on the local device by being backed up to the cloud.
How does CinchOps protect OneDrive against ransomware sync?
CinchOps protects OneDrive against ransomware in three ways: endpoint protection via Defender that detects the ransomware before it encrypts files, controlled folder access that blocks unauthorized encryption attempts on OneDrive synced folders, and third-party Microsoft 365 backup that stores immutable copies outside the tenant so a restore is possible even if the synced content is encrypted.
How do external sharing controls work in OneDrive?
OneDrive external sharing controls determine who can be shared with, whether anonymous links are allowed, how long shared links remain valid, and whether external recipients need to sign in to access shared content. CinchOps configures these controls so anonymous public links are disabled and external access requires sign-in with auditing of who accessed what.
