How We Run Your Defender

The protection you already own, finally configured.

EDR on every device: Endpoint detection and response runs on every machine, watching for the behavior that signals an attack instead of just known virus signatures.

Attack surface reduction on: ASR rules block the macros, scripts, and techniques attackers actually use, closing the doors that default installs leave open.

Ransomware blocked at the folder: Controlled folder access stops unauthorized changes to your important files, so a ransomware process cannot encrypt what matters.

Security baselines applied: Hardened configuration is enforced and drift is corrected, so devices stay locked down instead of loosening over time.

Alerts investigated by a person: We triage and run down every alert, so a real intrusion gets caught instead of buried under false positives nobody reads.

Threat hunting: We sweep for indicators across the fleet, so a quiet attacker is found before the damage is done.

A Katy-based engineer owns it: One engineer manages your Defender deployment and watches the alerts, so detection and response is a service, not a dashboard left to you.

Run Microsoft Defender for Business the way it was built to run, instead of at default.

Microsoft Defender for Business  //  Houston SMBs

You already own enterprise-grade endpoint protection. It is sitting at default.

Microsoft Defender for Business comes with Microsoft 365 Business Premium, and it is genuinely good, real endpoint detection and response, attack surface reduction, the kind of protection that used to cost extra. The catch: out of the box it is barely configured. Most Houston SMBs that own it have the antivirus running and everything else switched off.

CinchOps deploys Defender for Business the way it was meant to run: attack surface reduction rules on, security baselines applied, controlled folder access enabled, and alerts that get investigated by a person instead of piling up in a console nobody watches.

// why CinchOps manages Defender

Owning Defender and running Defender are not the same thing.

Defender for Business is powerful and, in most Houston SMBs, barely touched past the default antivirus. CinchOps configures and manages it for construction firms, manufacturers, CPA practices, and healthcare offices, where an unmonitored endpoint is the quiet entry point for ransomware.

01

Configured, not just installed

The antivirus running is the easy part. We turn on attack surface reduction, controlled folder access, and the baselines that block the techniques attackers actually use.

02

Alerts a human reads

An EDR alert nobody investigates is just noise. We triage and run down every alert, so a real intrusion gets caught instead of buried under false positives.

03

Ransomware stopped at the folder

Controlled folder access blocks unauthorized changes to your important files, so a ransomware process that lands on a machine cannot encrypt what matters.

04

A named Katy-based engineer owns it

One engineer manages your Defender deployment and watches the alerts, so detection and response is a service, not a dashboard you were left to run alone.

FAQs

Have Questions?

What is Microsoft Defender for Business?
Microsoft Defender for Business is the endpoint protection service in Microsoft 365 Business Premium that protects Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android devices against malware, phishing, ransomware, and other endpoint threats. It includes antivirus, attack surface reduction rules, controlled folder access, web protection, and endpoint detection and response capabilities.
Is Defender for Business included in our Microsoft 365 subscription?
Defender for Business is included in Microsoft 365 Business Premium. Microsoft 365 Business Basic and Business Standard do not include it. Microsoft 365 E3 and E5 include the more capable Defender for Endpoint product. CinchOps reviews the existing licensing and recommends the right tier based on the security needs of the business.
What is attack surface reduction (ASR)?
Attack surface reduction (ASR) is a set of Defender rules that block specific behaviors attackers commonly use, such as Office applications launching executables, scripts launching from email attachments, and credential theft from operating system memory. ASR rules can run in audit mode for visibility or enforced mode for blocking. CinchOps configures the rules in enforced mode where the business pattern supports it.
What is controlled folder access?
Controlled folder access is a Defender feature that protects designated folders from unauthorized changes by untrusted applications. Ransomware typically tries to encrypt files in user document directories. Controlled folder access blocks the encryption attempt and alerts the security team. CinchOps configures controlled folder access on the business document directories for every managed device.
Does CinchOps investigate Defender alerts?
Yes. CinchOps reviews Defender alerts from managed tenants and investigates detections that warrant attention. Real attacks get escalated through the incident response process. False positives get tuned so the alert noise goes down. The work includes documented remediation per detection and a monthly security posture report showing trends over time.
